(5thDL) announced that it has attained level one Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS) 2.0 certification, making it possibly the first payment gateway in the world to accomplish such notable status and rigorous security protocols.
The PCI Standard is the result of a collaborative effort formed by the five major credit card companies (Visa International, MasterCard Worldwide, American Express, Discover Financial Services and JCB) to cultivate a well-organized methodology to protecting sensitive payment and consumer data and for the prevention of electronic payment fraud. All merchants, entities and software solutions that process, store or disseminate electronic payment data must be PCI DSS compliant. The penalties for not doing so are substantial fines and possibly losing their ability to process electronic payments.
